Competitors can cooperate
It is interesting the things I continue to learn and experience in this position. Every day it seems there is presented to me an opportunity to learn and grow.
Recently, I have found myself in the position of coach and umpire between two competing member businesses. Both companies are striving to be the best they can be and work in a cooperative manner with each other. Both entities, very much to their credits, are focused on keeping this ethical and above board. Ethics and honesty are two values of the Maricopa Chamber of Commerce and its board.
As Director of the Maricopa Chamber of Commerce I must remain neutral and support equally BOTH member organizations while trying to encourage dialogue and cooperation between them. My passion for this community and ALL the business has been commented on and appreciated by all involved. But, I am asking myself; at what point does my involvement as Chamber Director get perceived as interference or cross the line of neutrality? I encourage these parties to continue open minded communication and come up with a plan to co-exist, as I firmly believe that is what they both desire.
This is a fine example of how the Maricopa business community can form strong alliances through open communication and ethical behavior. There is enough business for all.
